The Forum was set up in response to increasing requests from older people at the top end of the Rhondda Valley for a pressure group to address their needs. It is primarily concerned with issues in the areas of Blaenrhondda, Treherbert, Treorchy, Ynyswen, Cwmparc and Penyrenglyn.

The Upper Rhondda Forum covers the top of the Rhondda Fawr valley – from Treherbert, Cwmparc & Blaenrhondda down via Treorchy to Ystrad and Ton Pentre, and everywhere in between. The Upper Rhondda Forum meets every other month in the Oak Tree Hall, Cemetary Road, Treorchy CF42 6TB
